MANCORAD
September, 2005 Meeting Minutes
President Fred (W6BSF) called the meeting to order at 1935 CDT, September 14, 2005. The August, 2005 meeting minutes as e-mail distributed by Fred were accepted by motion from Ken (K9HAG) and second by Theresa (KB9KXE). Dick (N9QFY) gave the Treasurer’s report, which was accepted by motion fromJohn(NZ9Z) and second by Bob (KB9INK).
Please sign up for help on the following club event;
- Brat Fry at Two Rivers Pick’N-Save – October 1, 2005 (0900 to 1500). The Brat Fry will include a Bake Sale to increase event proceeds to the club. Please contribute home baked items; a cash donation for bakery good purchase from those unable to attend is welcomed. Per the signup sheet routed at the meeting, the following have volunteered to help out, and more are needed: K9WL, KB9GOY, K9HAG, KA9WYK, KB9INK, N9FVZ, KB9KXE, KB9KXF, W6BSF and NZ9Z. Please contact Theresa, KB9KXE to sign up for this fundraising event.
Dan (N9NCU) gave an update on Manitowoc County ARES/RACES activities.
- The Wisconsin District ARES Simulated Emergency Test (SET) will be conducted on Saturday, October 1, 2005. Manitowoc ARES/RACES has decided not to participate, deferring the SET objectives to the November 1, 2005 nuclear annual exercise.
- The annual nuclear exercise for 2005 will be with the Kewaunee Power Station and conducted on Tuesday, November 1, 2005. Seven to ten participants will be needed for this event.
Next year, Mancorad will observe its 60th year of existence (organized December 10,1946). Fred solicited suggestions for this anniversary observation. It was proposed that a special event station, operating from the Mancorad club shack, be conducted on that date. There will be further discussion during upcoming meetings.
The October, 12, 2005, Mancorad meeting will include election of the 2006 club officers and board members; the 2006 fiscal year begins November 1, 2005. Please consider volunteering to serve on one of these positions: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and three (3) ad hoc Board members.
N9NCU gave a brief summary of the annual Mancorad family picnic conducted on September 10 at Neshotah Park in Two Rivers; 30 club and family members attended, the weather was great along the lakeshore, and the picnic cost was under $60.00 to the club. Unfortunately, enough meat was not bought and cooked; one and one-half sandwiches per signed up participant for the picnic was insufficient, and should be increased to two sandwiches for future picnics. A T-hunt was not conducted because nobody volunteered to pick up the T-transmitter and run the event. Meeting discussion ensued, and included the following;
- Neshotah Park is a good place to hold the picnic, and will be used next year again.
- Before the 2006 picnic permit is pursued, a discussion should occur to consider a picnic date other than early September.
- The club should construct its own T-hunt transmitter that would be kept at the club shack. KA9WYK, N9FVZ and KB9INK volunteered to take this project on.
The annual Mancorad Christmas Party, January 6, 2006, at Cedar Ridge was briefly discussed; at the October meeting it will be discussed again with details on costs, etc. in order to prepare for this annual event.
Steve (KB9GPN) and John (NZ9Z) discussed conducting a Technician License preparation course using “ham-cram”. It may be too late to set this up to allow VE testing at the November 5 Appleton ham fest, but it will be pursued.
KB9GPN offered to do a Saturday, 3 – 4 hour digital communications overview demonstration at W9DK. This was enthusiastically accepted by many of the members in attendance. Steve also indicated that he will be operating from Washington Island October 28 – 30, and that he will be happy to set up QSO schedules.
NZ9Z gave a briefing on the almost executed deployment of himself to Louisiana for Hurricane Katrina amateur radio communications support. At the last minute, the deployment was cancelled for reasons that are not entirely clear, but appear to be due to a change in heart on need from the Louisiana SEC. Thank you John for volunteering to take on this significant undertaking.
The monthly 50/50 raffle was conducted. $24.00 was collected, and the winner of the drawing was Fred (W6BSF). The treasury will increase by $12.00 due to tonight’s raffle.
The meeting was adjourned at 2035 CDT.
Lunch was served; thanks to Theresa and Gene for again bringing in the treats.
Respectfully submitted,
Dan (N9NCU), Secretary
