MANCORAD
October 11, 2006, Mancorad Meeting Minutes
President Fred (W6BSF) called the meeting to order at 7:36 p.m. The Treasurer’s report was given by Dick (N9QFY), and was accepted by motion from Bob (KC9HBA), and second by Travis (KB9YRC). The September, 2006, meeting minutes as e-mail distributed by Fred were accepted by motion from Jerry (KC9JNL) and second by John (NZ9Z).
Cobia outings; this year, Mancorad had 3 outings on the submarine. Discussion for 2007 was for a change to ~ 3 outings with Scout education as the purpose (only 2M VHF equipment is required), and possibly only 1 outing (Ships on the Air) when both HF and VHF equipment is used. This will be discussed again.
2006 Family Picnic at Neshotah Park . A very light turnout (~ 15 people) occurred, possibly due to the cold and windy day, and also a conflict with the Two Rivers Ethnic Fest. It was proposed (K9HAG) that the picnic be combined with Field Day in 2007. Those in attendance favored this proposal.
Fred has forwarded to the membership an email proposing to set up a NE Wisconsin Quarter Century Wireless Association (QCWA) chapter. If eligible and interested in hearing more, please contact Fred, W6BSF.
2006 Christmas Party; we’ve apparently lost our $200 deposit with Cedar Ridge (bankruptcy) for this year’s party. Dick, N9QFY, reported on his contacts with the Fawn Club, Gils in Whitelaw and the Oar House in Manitowoc . After discussion, the membership decided upon the Fawn Club ($10.50/ person for 2 meats, not including tax and tip). John, NZ9Z, suggested a membership “White Elephant” present exchange this year since the club is already out $200.00 for the party; those in meeting attendance liked the idea (no cost to the club).
Silent Key plaque is progressing and should be finished soon.
Mancorad Club Brochure; Fred reported that he was outright turned down by the Visitor Center on Calumet for having the brochure put on display. Any members with ideas for brochure placement should contact Fred.
The club’s surplus TS-830 that was put on the Kenwood website has resulted in no nibbles. It was agreed that posting on eBay and eHam should be done, possibly in conjunction with the Hammarlund receivers also to be sold.
Mancorad 60th Birthday; club celebration on December 9 – 10 with station operation under call sign W9DK/60 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on both days. Pizza party on Saturday has been proposed.
Club loaned equipment; a reminder that loaner equipment is for use by club members only!
Dan (N9NCU) gave the following ARES/ RACES update:
- The Manitowoc Co. Emergency Svcs. OJA grant expired end of September. The entire grant amount was expended except for $1.30.
- Hospital Bioterrorism initiative; Aurora Medical Center declined to participate. Holy Family Memorial is very active and has agreed to a Win link 2000 TelPac node on the hospital roof in addition to the ARES radio station. Work is proceeding on both.
- All W9DK club shack rooftop work is completed except for the TV antenna coax connectors, and a 1-hole clamp on the trap-dipole HF antenna feed line.
- Two new antennas need to be installed at the Red Cross HQ in Manitowoc before the snow flies, if possible.
- Quarter 3, 2006, net participation – 10 nets conducted with 74 checkins; net activity continues to be very light.
- Welcome to new ARES/ RACES members KC9JNK and KC9JNL.
Election of 2007 Mancorad Officers and Board Members was conducted. Effective November 1, 2006, the new slate is:
President – Carl, KA9WYK Vice President – Travis, KB9YRC
Secretary – Dawn, KC9JNK Treasurer – Dan, N9NCU
Board Members – John, NZ9Z, Jerry, KC9JNL and Marty, KC9JGE
A hearty round of applause was given to the outgoing officers and board members for their service and dedication to the club.
The monthly 50/50 raffle was conducted. $18.50 was collected, and the winner of the drawing was Jerry, KC9JNL. The treasury will increase by $9.25 from this raffle, and Jerry’s pocket did too.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:47 p.m. Fellowship and socializing over lunch followed.
Respectfully submitted,
Dan (N9NCU) Secretary
