MANCORAD

 October, 2005 Meeting Minutes

President Fred (W6BSF) called the meeting to order at 1940 CDT, October 12, 2005.  The September, 2005 meeting minutes as e-mail distributed by Fred were accepted by motion from Chris (KB9VLS) and second by Mary (KB9GOY).  Dick (N9QFY) gave the Treasurer’s report, which was accepted by motion from Dan (N9FVZ) and second by Ken (K9HAG).

Fred gave a summary of the Brat Sale conducted on October 1; thanks to K9WL (and XYL), K9HAG, KB9GOY, KB9INK, NZ9Z, KA9WYK, N9FVZ, KB9KXE, KB9KXF and W6BSF for manning this successful fundraiser.

Fred announced that this year’s Christmas Party, January 6, 2006, will be held again at Cedar Ridge.  The meal cost ($12.00 including tax and tip) will be subsidized by Mancorad so that the cost per attendee will be $11.00, which is slightly higher than last year. However, Mancorad will increase the Christmas party game gift allowance upward to $150.00 (was $125.00 last year). The minimum attendees required is 40, same as last year. KB9GOY and KB9KXE generously volunteered to shop for the presents this year.

John (NZ9Z) and Steve (KB9GPN) are requested to determine the when and where of the Technician license Cram Course this winter. Fred requested that at least a 2-month prior announcement be made through the press to solicit trainees.

AA9AA has offered $300.00 for the log-periodic HF beam donated by Glenn DeBaker to Mancorad.  By a show of hands, this offer was accepted by those in attendance.

Dan (N9NCU) gave an update on Manitowoc County ARES/RACES activities.

  • The annual nuclear exercise for 2005 will be with the Kewaunee Power Station and conducted on Tuesday, November 1, 2005.  Seven to ten participants will be needed for this event.
  • The Lakeshore Technical College training EOC building is progressing. Fred gave a briefing on the HF and VHF equipment that has been recommended by the Manitowoc and Sheboygan ARES/RACES groups for purchase by LTC.  There will likely be a work party required to support the installation of the ham radio equipment in this facility.  More to come.
  • The Kewaunee Power Plant new Emergency Operations Facility and Joint Public Information Center is progressing with the remodeling of an existing light industrial building in the Green Bay I43 industrial park. Dan gave a briefing on the VHF antenna, feed line and grounding provisions that Dominion will be providing for use by the Kewaunee and Manitowoc County ARES/RACES groups.  The ARES/RACES groups will be expected to provide their own radios and power supplies.  It is likely that a work party will be needed for this project also.
  • The WI Section Hospital Bio-terrorism amateur radio support communications initiative is progressing.  The next phase presently starting is to establish an emergency plan with both Aurora and Holy Family hospitals.  Following that, the final phase will be installation of standardized antenna, feed line, grounding and power supplies (standardization is being dictated by the WI Section ARES).

The Mancorad club owned tube tester has been checked out by person(s) unknown, and not returned.  If you have it, please contact Fred.

Jan (N9IQZ) and Ron (WS9X) Schaden have offered to give their T-hunt transmitter to the Mancorad club rather than have the club build its own T as was discussed at last meeting.  A big thanks to Jan and Ron for their generosity.

Red (N9GHE) has offered Mancorad $100.00 to purchase the club’s Hammarlund HQ-160 and HQ-180 receivers, and the Hammarlund speaker. This offer was unanimously rejected by members in attendance.

Steve (KB9GPN) asked (via Fred) if the membership would prefer a Saturday morning or a Sunday afternoon for the introduction to digital communications class Steve has volunteered to provide.  There were too few in attendance at the meeting to obtain an answer for Steve.

The Fox Cities hamfest location has changed back to Waverly Beach, the traditional location for several years.  The hamfest will be on Sunday, November 6, at 0800 hrs.; tickets are $5.00 in advance, or $6.00 at the door.

  Year 2006 officers and board members were elected as the last business item of the meeting.  For 2006, this will be the roster for Mancorad leadership positions;

President – W6BSF                      Board Member – N9FVZ

Vice President – N4WGK           Board Member – K9WL

Secretary – N9NCU                      Board Member – NZ9Z

Treasurer – N9QFY

The monthly 50/50 raffle was conducted. $14.50 was collected, and the winner of the drawing was Mary (KB9GOY). The treasury will increase by $7.25 due to tonight’s raffle.

The meeting was adjourned at 2040 CDT.

Lunch was served; thanks to Theresa and Gene for again bringing in the treats.

  Respectfully submitted,

  Dan (N9NCU), Secretary
