MANCORAD MEETING MINUTES

June 14, 2006

The meeting was called to order by Fred, W6BSF at 19:04.  The meeting was held at LTC to show the EOC facility to all   present.  Hopefully it will never have to be used to its full potential.

Rich Hoerth, the dean of the safety building explained the purpose of the facility to the group present.  He thanked all the people who were involved in setting it up.

Introductions were made as there were people from Calumet, Sheboygan and Manitowoc counties.

Fred, W6BSF, passed around the sign up sheets for the upcoming events.  Field day is the next major event coming on June 24 and 25.  Please try and make it an event.  There will be a fry out for the evening meal.  Jim, KB9GOX, and Julie, N9PZX, have offered to take care of purchasing the meats, thank you.

Fred passed out appreciation certificates for people who worked the Submarines on the Air event April 29-30.

John, NZ9Z, gave a brief synopsis on the radio setup–what was done and what needs to be done at LTC.

Martin, KC9JGE, made a new brochure for the club.  It was passed around for approval.  Nice job, Marty.

Mayor proclamation is this Monday, June 19 at city hall.  Please try to attend at 6:45.  The county proclamation is Tuesday, June 20 at 6:55 at the UW ext.  Contact Walt, K9WL, for information.

Travis,KB9YRC, gave an excellent presentation on SKYWARN–things he thought were important and are not as emphasized.  He talked about how SKYWARN and amateur radio work together, storm structure, what to report and how to report it and concerns about storm spotting.  He emphasized that the nets are held on 146.610 or 146.520 as backup.  The regional net is on 146.760.  Nets are activated on three levels, alert messages, standby net, and active net.  He went through the procedure for checking into the net, what to report and what not to report.  He also touched on storm structure and mobile spotting.  He showed an amazing video on tornado chasing.

Chris, KB9VLS, showed the prototype of the mobile radio setup for emergency situations.

The meeting adjourned at 21:10.  Lunch followed thanks to Gene, KB9KXE, and Theresa, KB9KXF.
