MANCORAD

July 12, 2006, Mancorad Meeting Minutes

President Fred (W6BSF) called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. The Treasurer’s report was given by Fred, and was accepted by motion from Denise (N4WGK), and second by Tim (N7TAL). The June, 2006, meeting minutes as e-mail distributed by Fred were accepted by motion from Ken (K9HAG) and second by Chris (KB9VLS).

Welcome new Mancorad Members Dawn (KC9JNK) and Jerry (KC9JNL).

Signup sheets were routed for the following events (please contact the named individuals to volunteer);

  1. 2006 Kewaunee Trout-fest Dual-a-thon, July 15 (KB9GOX)
  2. 2006 Leukemia Scenic Shore Bike Tour, July 22-23 (KB9VLS)
  3. Brat Fry Fund Raiser on August 19, Pick’N Save in Two River

A big thank you to the over 30 individuals who participated in Field Day 2006 at Silver Creek Park; many individuals operated on the air, in addition to set-up and take-down.  246 HF contacts were logged.  Manitowoc County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer visited the site.

Fred and Walt (K9WL) led a discussion on purchase of Mancorad brochure copies for use in advertising Mancorad to the public, including visitors to the county.  It was unanimously voted to purchase an initial quantity of one hundred (100) color brochures through OfficeMax, and monitor how fast they go. A lower price can be obtained for larger quantities through Two Rivers Printers.  A big thanks to Marty (KC9JGE) for preparing the brochure.

Dan (N9NCU) gave the following ARES/ RACES update:

  1. Travis, KB9YRC, requested the telephone number for Milwaukee NOAA Skywarn reporting be brought to the group’s attention; that phone number is 1-800-545-8197, X468.  During a recent Skywarn net, spotter activity occurring in Sheboygan County could not be reported to Green Bay NOAA because Sheboygan is part of the Milwaukee NOAA office’s jurisdiction.
  2. ARES/ RACES members wishing to become Red Cross volunteers in order to be covered under their volunteer insurance umbrella; the Red Cross orientation training will be conducted on Tuesday, July 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the Mancorad Clubshack; please RSVP attendance to Dan for the dessert count.
  3. All of the Clubshack grounding updates that can be performed without help from the Parks and Recreation boom truck have been completed.
  4. Volunteers are needed to help with the installation and remodeling of additional upgrades; tomorrow night’s work party for coaxial cable installation had to be cancelled because of an insufficient number of volunteers for the work.  Chris (KB9VLS) also made an appeal for help in assembling the field radio boxes.
  5. Dan gave a brief explanation of a preliminary rearrangement of the operating station desk to accommodate the additional HF and VHF/UHF radio equipment and computers.  Mancorad members need to get involved in commenting on the proposed remodeling because this is our Clubshack.  Dan reminded those in attendance that all costs are being born by ARES/ RACES, not the Mancorad treasury.
  6. Status on expenditure of grant funding will not be reported at Mancorad club meetings because none of the spending is coming from the club treasury.

Fred led a discussion resulting from Board of Directors meeting prior to the club meeting on the disposition of unused club equipment, including non-ham radio gear.  The Board has appointed a committee consisting of Fred, Walt and Dan (N9NCU) to distribute a list of equipment to be sold or donated; club members can submit sealed bids on any item(s) they are interested in.  If the bid is in-line with other like-kind equipment sales occurring on eBay, the equipment will be sold. If no reasonable bids are received, the committee will either take action to sell the equipment outside of Mancorad, or recommend donation. It was moved by John, seconded by Steve (K9ZW) and unanimously approved that unused VHF and UHF base stations and HT’s old enough to not be equipped with CTCSS (PL) be donated to Sri Lanka (where PL is not in use) through Victor (4S7VK) who will be visiting here in August.

Tonight’s feature presentation by Steve was on Washington Island (Door County) radio club WI9DX and exothermic welding of grounding materials. A big thanks to Steve for making this presentation.

The monthly 50/50 raffle was conducted.  $12.50 was collected, and the winner of the drawing was Fred. The treasury will increase by $6.25 from this raffle, and Fred’s pocket did too.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.  Fellowship and socializing followed.

  Respectfully submitted,

  Dan (N9NCU) Secretary
