Mancorad Club Meeting Minutes

September 12, 2007

  • Meeting was called to order at 7:37 pm by President Carl, KA9WYK.
  • Secretary’s minutes of August, 2007, meeting as posted on the internet was approved after motion by K9WL and second by KC9JNL, subject to two clarifications as follows;
    • Club’s antenna rotators did not need to be sent out of house for repairs, and
    • Nancy Lukitsch’s call is actually K9NJL.
  • Treasurer’s report as presented by Dan, N9NCU, was approved after motion by Len, N9QFO, and second by Bob, KC9HBA.
  • Carl expressed appreciation of club members participating in recent events such as 2 Bikeathons, Lighthouse activation and Highway 42 cleanup.
  • New (returning) member application from Fran, AA9LV, was approved after motion by K9HAG and second by KC9HBA.
  • New club 145.110 repeater:
  • The repeater has been checked out for operation on frequency 145.110 MHz and PL 100 Hz successfully.
  • Wayne Franks charged only $60.00 for the replacement crystal pair, and nothing for labor on the repeater frequency change. Those in attendance voted to provide Wayne with a $40.00 gift certificate (Chamber Bucks) for his effort with personal delivery by President Carl, and subsequent press notification when the repeater has gone on the air with acknowledgement to Frank’s Radio by Mancorad, and a plaque acknowledging Wayne’s continuing support over the years to Mancorad. These items were approved by those in attendance after motion by KB9EME and second by KC9LOA.
  • Cabinet ventilation modifications to support 24/7 repeater operation will be completed by N9NCU before the end of October, 2007.
  • A remote controller (DTMF tone ON / OFF) is not presently installed on this repeater. Those in attendance approved purchase of a remote controller; a person responsible for seeing that this is completed was not identified. For the interim, however, three (3) control operators have agreed to monitor the repeater and intervene a malfunction or improper repeater usage; K9ZW, N7TAL and KB9YRC. A clubshack key will be provided to any of these individuals not currently having a key prior to 24/7 repeater operation. KC9JNL will look into pricing for a DTMF controller and report back next meeting.
  • Clubshack cleaning date of October 2, 2007 was set, starting at 5:00 p.m. Volunteers are KA9WYK, KB9GOY, K9HAG, KB9YRC, KC9LOA (tentative) and KC9JNL (tentative). With the clubshack cleaning date now set, Carl can set a date for the promised club’s capabilities presentation to the City of Manitowoc Parks & Recreation Department.
  • The next HamCram Technician Licensing course is tentatively scheduled for the month of November, 2007; N7TAL is joining the ranks of instructors. 
  • If there is sufficient interest the ARRL Basic Electronics Course may also be offered. Contact Steve, K9ZW, if you are interested in this course.
  • President Carl proposed three (3) new non-Constitution club positions; Educational Coordinator (K9ZW has volunteered), Technical Resource Coordinator (KC9LOA volunteered at the meeting) and Club Historian (volunteer is needed). Proposal passed after motion and second by N7TAL and KB9EME.
  • W9DK website (carryover item from August meeting); Carl indicated that this issue is not in a crisis mode and that a committee would be formed to make recommendation(s).
  • Carl presented that he did not have confidence that any of the existing slate of club officers could be assured to be present at the October elections meeting due to business travel, family situations, etc., and proposed that the October meeting be delayed one week to October 17, 2007. Per our Constitution, he, as President, will appoint a nominating committee to identify a slate of club officers and Board members for 2008; their recommendations would be presented at the October election meeting. Additional candidates can be added by member nomination at the October election meeting. The elections committee membership makeup will be announced to the club membership via email and other means prior to the October election meeting. This proposal was passed by those in attendance after motion by KB9EME and second by N7TAL. [NOTICE TO ALL – OCTOBER MEETING & ELECTIONS – 10/17/07 – CHANGE OF DATE]
  • Fred, W6BSF, noted that a working group to remodel the clubshack South wall closets has been open in the minutes for several meetings, with no date established to do the work. A cleanup date of September 29, 2007, was set; Carl has the signup sheet. Remodeling may take subsequent work group(s).
  • Fred, W6BSF, noted that there should be an inspection and general cleanup made on the 146.610 repeater. Dan, N9NCU, will arrange to obtain the keys from the Sheriff’s office for a work party on October 23, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. The work party will be W6BSF, N9NCU, KA9WYK and KB9YRC.
  • Carl thanked the Highway 42 cleanup participants, Mary (KB9GOY), John (NZ9Z), Julie (N9PZX) and Dick (N9QFY) for their efforts September 4, 2007. for this project.
  • Dan, N9NCU, gave an ARES/ RACES update: 1) portable emergency radio equipment is now stored at the Manitowoc-Calumet Red Cross Chapter, 2) an agreement has been signed with LTC to obtain access to radio station W9LTC if needed in an emergency, 3) the 3rd Quarter ARES meeting will be on September 22, 2007, held in conjunction with a Red Cross Chapter shelter setup exercise, and 4) a first of a kind threat based nuclear exercise was conducted with Point Beach Nuclear Plant on August 29, 2007. ARES/ RACES members wishing for a used desktop PC for use in ARES/ RACES can contact Dan; such a request (ARES/ RACES use only) can be put on a waiting list for a used computer with the Section.
  • Free for the taking QSL cards are on the clubshack front table; any not taken by the October meeting will be recycled.
  • The meeting was closed at 8:50 pm after approval of a motion and second by KB9YRC and KC9JNL.
  • Lunch was provided tonight by Lois, KC9LFT; thank you Lois.
