October, 2007 Meeting Minutes

President Carl ( KA9WYK ) called the meeting to order at 7:33 P.M.

The September 2007 meeting minutes as e-mailed & posted on web site were accepted by motion from Vern (KB9EME) and second by Travis (KB9YRC).

 

Dan (N9NCU) gave the treasury report with a motion to accept from Steve (K9ZW ) second by Gene (KB9KXF).

    • Dan passed around a graph of the budget showing detailed expenses. ( projected / actual )
    • A discussion was brought up to possibly have a 3rd Brat Fry
    • The graph was very helpful in showing projections and a discussion for future graphs may help to project the number of Brat Fry’s / etc. to offset budget costs.
    • Jerry ( KC9JNL ) and Dawn ( KC9JNK ) aided in selling one of the Technicians manual. 

Carl ( KA9WYK ) talked about the new repeater.

  • There were test’s conducted and found that it wasn’t functioning properly – further tests will be done to see if 
  •  The problem is a lack of power or analyze the antenna as well as converse with Frank’s Radio Service for his 
  •   input on the issue.
    • Steve (K9ZW) found an exposed wire on the new repeater and will be taking care of that situation.
    • Jerry (KC9JNL) talked to a fellow in Kiel about a repeater controller and the outcome was that are numerous models and there would be a need to know which one is needed so Carl ( KA9WYK ) will talk to Frank’s Radio Service.
    • Carl ( KA9WYK ) Talked to Dick ( N9QFY ) regarding the Plaque for Wayne of ( Frank’s Radio ) and to date the plaque has been ordered and no update as of yet.

Carl ( KA9WYK ) talked about the club shack cleaning.

The floor has been cleaned and waxed – vents and moldings were cleaned.

A Big Thank You to Ken ( K9HAG ) Mary ( KB9GOY ) and Carl ( KA9WYK ) for the Clean up project.

 

Carl ( KA9WYK ) talked about the club shack closet project.

The closet was emptied and scrubbed out – sorted and made 3 piles ( keep, trash, and what was to be taken garage )

A lot of equipment was taken to the garage and in viewing the amount – Carl ( KA9WYK ) recommended that the Ares/Races equipment stay at the Red Cross where Travis ( KB9YRC ) would be able periodically check on the equip. and charge the batteries from time to time.

If there is an emergency – the Ares/Races members could meet at the Red Cross

A Big Thank You to Jerry ( KC9JNL ) Bob ( KC9HBA ) and Carl ( KA9WYK ) for the Closet Clean up project.

 

Carl ( KA9WYK ) is setting up an open house date for the landlord ( Manitowoc City Parks & Rec. )

Support will be needed from Travis ( KB9YRC ) to demonstrate WX and Dan ( N9NCU ) for Emcomm. etc.

 

Steve ( K9ZW ) gave a report about another Ham Cram. 

He and John ( NZ9Z ) are looking to holding another session on Saturday December 1st. provided there are enough students signed up before Thanksgiving – in order to have the pre-session and have enough VE’s available.

They are also trying to coordinate with other clubs so as not to duplicate dates.

The cost’s will be the same as our last Ham Cram $ 40.00 which would off set the Course Fee, Supplies/Materials, Book and luncheon.

Steve (K9ZW) is looking into doing promotional work to encourage students to enroll by putting ad’s in the newspaper and on the radio.

So anyone interested in taking the Ham Cram should contact either Steve (K9ZW) or John (NZ9Z)

 

Dan ( N9NCU ) gave an ARES/RACES report.

Last month during the 3rd quarter meeting on Sept. 22nd there were 3 agencies that got together for a hands-on practice.  Those 3 agencies were – The local Red Cross, Salvation Army and Ares/Races.

The practice involved setting up – operate and taking down. Thank you for all that participated.

There will be a 4th quarter meeting projected for Tuesday evening November 27th for preparation of the annual Kewaunee Nuclear Plant drill that is set for Dec 4th. –to also cover anything missed during the 3rd quarter meeting.

Dan ( N9NCU ) would also like to get a work party together in November to put up a mast to put up a previously owned Beam at the Red Cross Chapter building on North 8th Street – In order to contact with the Calumet County ARES/RACES Repeater that we can not access at present time.

Possible dates for this party would be ( Nov. 3rd or Nov. 10th ) both Saturdays.

 

Carl ( KA9WYK ) reminded the 146.61 Repeater Maintenance Party is set for Tuesday Oct 23rd for 5 PM.

Those members are: Fred ( W6BSF ), Dan ( N9NCU ), Travis ( KB9YRC ) and Carl ( KA9WYK )

 

 The Fox Cities Amateur Radio Club ( W9ZL ) Swapfest is Saturday Nov. 4th

New Location: The Wave Ballroom – 2350 N. Casaloma Dr. Appleton, Wi

 Next to the Fox Cities Stadium (Timber Rattlers ) & near the Fox River Mall.

 

JOTA - 50th anniversary (Jamboree on the Air) weekend is October 20th and 21st

The theme of JOTA 2007 is "Around the world in 50 hours"

From Friday ( Oct.19th) 22:00 local to Sunday ( Oct. 21st ) 24:00 local

 

Steve ( K9ZW ) mentioned that there are several people interested in a buddy antenna build – possibly during the week of Thanksgiving.  Dates are flexible.

Rich Weyer (KC9LOA) has full access to a machine shop.

Discussion for two antenna builds – the 5 band buddy pole build would cost approx $ 80 parts versus $ 400

A 2 meter antenna build at a cost between $ 35 and $40 versus $ 200

Dan ( N9NCU ) also reminded members of a power pole build. 

 

Fred ( W6BSF ) mentioned that John ( NZ9Z ) wanted to remind members that CQ World Wide DX Contest will be October 27th and October 28th  Anyone interested should contact John ( NZ9Z ) If enough people are interested he will open up the shack and help out.

The Tri-band beam antenna on the club shack roof and the Di-pole at LTC both need tweaking.

Those interested in helping should contact Fred ( W6BSF ) or John ( NZ9Z )

 

Fred mentioned that the problems during field day with the rotors boxes in the cabinet are not compatible with the rotor. The resisters are different and the caps are different. 

John ( NZ9Z ) will be contacting Rotor Doctor for parts and when received Fred ( W6BSF ) will install.

 

Carl ( KA9WYK ) talked about the field day rotor wire not being long enough.

Discussion to purchase at least 200 ft of heavy duty rotor wire. Along with quick connects. 

Steve ( K9ZW ) said that he would test the condition of the existing coax and report back the status and if new coax is needed. 

 

The monthly 50/50 raffle was conducted and the winner was Carl ( KA9WYK )

Carl ( KA9WYK ) donated his winnings of $ 8.35 back into the treasury increasing it by $ 16.70

 

 

Election of 2007 ManCoRad Officers and Board Members was conducted. Effective November 1, 2007

Steve ( K9ZW ) who was one of the election committee members gave a slate report on the recommended candidate for each position.  They included:

Secretary - Roxanne KC9KQU
Treasurer - Dan N9NCU

Dan ( N9NCU ) nominated Fred ( W6BSF ) for President.

 

After discussion about the Constitution and By-Laws rules were explained.

Excluding the vote for President all recommended positions were accepted by the members present after no one else wished to take these positions.  The motion was accepted by Travis ( KB9YRC ) and seconded by Gene ( KB9KXF )

It should be duly noted that slate was passed with one descendant Bob ( KC9HBA ) 

 

A ballot vote was conducted for president and after a count was taken the new president is Carl ( KA9WYK )

 

The Nominating Committee has several items concerning inconsistencies between the By-Laws in itself, and the By-Laws against the referenced Roberts Rules of Order and Cushings Manual.

It is expected that the new board will include fixing up the By-Laws as part of its 2008 agenda.

 

A hearty round of applause was given to the outgoing officers and board members for their service and dedication to the club.

 

A motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:36 PM was made by Vern ( KB9EME ) seconded by Denise ( N4WGK )

Followed by a social luncheon.
