MANCORAD

June, 2007 Meeting Minutes

PDF Version of this letter

President Carl ( KA9WYK ) called the meeting to order at 7:35 P.M.

The May 2007 meeting minutes as e-mailed & posted on web site were accepted by motion from Jerry ( KC9JNL ).

and second by Rich (KC9LOA ).

Dan ( N9NCU ) gave the treasury report with a motion to accept from Dick ( N9QFY ) second by Jerry ( KC9JNL ).

Dan ( N9NCU ) then gave a 2 month’s ARES/RACES report – On May 15th the 2nd quarter meeting was held at the Holy Family Memorial Hospital for a tour of the newly installed ARES/RACES station facility, with a follow up at the club shack. All ARES/RACES members should have a copy of their agreement/member plan, if not contact Dan.

The second part of the report was a progress report regarding the newly signed agreement with the American Red Cross Manitowoc county chapter on north 8th street to store our disaster response and radio equipment – this will not be implemented until after field day, so that we can get necessary shelving equipment etc. to store this equipment.

We have a signed property agreement between Red Cross and ManCoRad to identify which items of property belongs

to us, whether they will be stored there or not.

We are also going into negotiations with Lakeshore Tech College to use the ( W9LTC ) station at LTC as a high frequency backup to our equipment at the club shack – should our facility be un-occupyable during a disaster.

Dan ( N9NCU ) then ended his report by giving a balance on the grant funds.

Carl ( KA9WYK ) announced that we have another new application for club membership.

Nate Van Da Huvel ( KC9LFQ ).

Motion to accept Nate into club was from John ( NZ9Z ) and Second by Vern ( KB9EME )

A Big Welcome to Nate ( KC9LFQ ) as new member of the ManCoRad club.

John ( NZ9Z ) gave a Cobia event report.

Due to lack of manpower the event was done at the club shack instead of on board the sub.

The event was very successful.

Volunteers that operated the rigs were:

Saturday: Steve ( K9ZW ), Bob ( KC9HBA ), Max ( KC9LOE ), John ( NZ9Z ) and Marty (KC9JGE)

Sunday: Fred ( W6BSF ), Bob ( KC9HBA ), Tim ( N7TAL ) and Ken ( WD9ERO ).

The contacts were:

2 Meter: 14   -   20 Meter: 440   -   40 Meter: 94   -   75 Meter: 3   for a Total of 551 contacts.

Chris ( KB9VLS ) suggested for the next sub event, to consider a remote control operation from the Cobia to the shack via sky command since our Kenwood rig’s have the capabilities to fully operate and cross band repeat.

This is something we will have to look into and learn how to do.

John ( NZ9Z ) announced that we have a couple of stations for sale.

Former member Vick Holzinger ( WB9VYO ) has a Yaesu FT-840 - a HF rig from the 1990’s and as well as a cushcraft R7 to go along with it.

Another former member Dan Scherer ( KA9EAZ ) is giving up half of his station and has a Kenwood TS-940SAT Rig – and comes with a service manual and antenna tuner. The antenna is a Mosely TA-33M with WARC bands and the tower is a 50-foot crank up with a Wonder Pole base with tilt over.  The rotor is a Ham IV.  It's Vibroplex paddles and a Ham Keyer HK-5A keyer.  Anyone interested in purchasing these items should contact John ( NZ9Z )

Fred ( W6BSF ) put together and passed around a album of a rare expedition of Scarborough Reef.

The photos were of operators perched on a rock in the middle of the ocean in the hot tropical sun to active a country.

Carl ( KA9WYK ) read a letter from the United States Bankruptcy Court / Eastern District of Wisconsin regarding the bankruptcy of Cedar Ridge Restaurant – This being that we lost our $ 200 down payment for last years Christmas party site.

Carl ( KA9WYK ) reminded everyone of the up-coming Kewaunee Bike-A-Thon set for July 14th.

Volunteers are needed for just a few hours’ on Saturday morning to watch for breakdowns and such.

Anyone interested should contact Jim ( KB9GOX )

Carl ( KA9WYK ) talked about the Phase Master IIB and 2 dual CB radio’s that were donated to the club from John Jagemann from the Court House Pub. We would like to set up a vintage station in the club shack using this equipment and send out a letter to officially Thank John Jagemann for these donations.

Denise ( N4WGK ) who worked for Lakeshore Industries in the early 50’s has been compiling some research such as:

Names and Dates, etc. regarding Lakeshore Industries, ( Which made the Phasemaster and Dual-D's. )

Lakeshore Industries was originally owned by Howard Hamann ( W9RYV ) and then sold to John Jagemann’s father )

Denise invited John Jagemann to our club meetings.

Carl ( KA9WYK ) cleaning of the club shack. Usually done once a year in the Spring but because of the remodeling and mounting of cabinets – So after all is finished, the plan is to move all the front equipment will be moved back and scrubbed and waxed then moved back and then the rest will be scrubbed and waxed.

This will be done in the near future.

Another Important announcement is that over the past couple of month’s the garbage containers haven’t been emptied out after leaving and a terrible odor and such has occurred. On one occasion the coffee pot has been left on – so let’s be aware of turning off things that need to be turned off and please remove our own trash to eliminate this in the future.

Carl ( KA9WYK ) talked about the frequency pair. The repeater needs to be taken to Franks Radio so he can set it up for our new repeater and install a chip board, etc.

The repeater will have to be moved with a dolly and volunteers are needed to help do this.

John ( NZ9Z ) said that there are manuals on the repeater – those are also from Bob Kubichek, ( N9LVU ) who donated the Tone Encoder.

Carl ( KA9WYK ) lastly talked about Field Day / Family Picnic. June 23rd and 24th.

Since field day is to test ability to transmit without power in case of an emergency - On 7:45 AM Saturday morning Travis ( KB9YRC ) will activate a net ( The Field Day Set Up net )

A number of people will be needed to meet at the club shack with pick up trucks to load up the equipment and transport to Toboggan Hill at 8:00 AM.

We will coordinate people to check in and meet at Toboggan Hill at 9:00 AM

So net is 7:45 AM – set up is from 9:00 AM to Noon

Operation is from Noon on Saturday to Noon on Sunday - Tear down is from Noon till equipment is all down.

          •
  • Steve ( K9ZW ) is donating his crane again this year for the big vertical beam and rotor – Steve is also going to try to bring a construction trailer since we were unable to get the tent this year – in case Steve is unable to get the trailer,

Marty (KC9JGE) has 2 tents to use.

There will be an ALL Band Loop By: Walt ( K9WL ) and Bob ( KB9INK ) that will be run out of the trailer.

A PSK 31 station – with a vertical antenna run out of the construction trailer.

Theresa ( KB9KXE ) and Gene ( KB9KXF ) are donating their Mobile Home trailer where the tower on the crane will be run from – there will be 2 generators – the Black boxes for use and demonstrations.

Carl ( KA9WYK ) will be providing a logging program.  This program will eliminate duplicate contacts.

Walt will donate a collinear.

Dick ( KB9KBM ) is donating a roll of copper clad wire to the club for possible use at field day.

For the Family Picnic will be at 4 PM on Saturday - the club will provide the brats and hamburgers / hot dogs / buns

and condiments.  Bring a dish to share and beverages.

John ( NZ9Z ) asked about the status on the Hwy clean up – He stressed the importance on helping with this project.

Dick Swanson, ( N9QFY) coordinates the event and gave the report on it, and said that it will have to be rescheduled in the near future. Those interested in helping should contact Dick.

The motion to adjourn meeting was by John ( NZ9Z ) and second by Ken ( K9HAG ) at 8:15 p.m.

Social luncheon followed adjournment.

The monthly 50/50 raffle was conducted and the winner was Fred (W6BSF )

The treasury increased by $ 8.50 as did Fred’s pocket.
