ManCoRad Club Meeting – July 9th, 2008

PDF VERSION

The meeting was called to order at 7:32pm by club president Carl KA9WYK.

Silent Key

A moment of silence was observed for member, William Zastrow K9DUX. Bill died July 5th at age 68. He was an avid HAM operator and will be greatly
missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bill’s family. Silent Key – K9DUX.

Guest Speaker

After the meeting, the club was fortunate to have a guest speaker, Dennis (Denny) K9LGU/STM who gave a PowerPoint presentation on procedures for
handling traffic. There was a lot of great information for new operators and a good review for veteran operators. This is what emergency communication
is all about. Thank you Denny for taking the time to pass on this information to us; maybe next year we can sent a message during Field Day and get
some bonus points.

Secretary’s Report

The June minutes were read by Marty KC9JGE. Corrections were made (such as Steve K9ZW and Carl KA9WYK drove to the Island) and Ken K9HAG made a motion
to accept the minutes with the changes. Tim N7TAL second it and the motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report

Dan N9NCU read the report. Rich KC9LOA made a motion to accept the report and Theresa second; the motion carried. There was a discussion about how the
club could best pay its respects to Bill Zastrow. The family request that donations be made to a charity of choice. Some of the ideas that were
considered were the HandiHAMs, a Cancer foundation and a scholarship in Bill’s name. Since Bill had been a club member since 1957-58, the club voted to
send a $30 memorial to the ARRL Foundation as a Scholarship. Steve K9ZW made a motion to accept; Marty KC9JGE second the motion. The motion carried.

Old Business

There was a brief recap of the Cobia and Field Day events. Thanks to all the operators who helped to make these events successful. A special thank you
went out to Gene and Theresa for the use of their trailer and for the use of the boom.

If anyone has pictures from these events and would like them included on the club web site, please send them to Marty KC9JGE via the computer or bring
them along to a meeting. We will be glad to share them on our web site to show others what we do. Contact Marty KC9JGE if you have any questions.

Several meetings are set to discuss Constitution issues.

New Business

Sign – up sheets were sent around for up coming events. We provide communications for the Trout Fest in Kewaunee and the Leukemia Ride which passes
through Manitowoc.

Congratulations to the new operators and to the operators who successfully passed their upgrade exams. HAMCRAM produced 5 more Technicians (Brent -
KC9NVY, Candy – KC9NVX, Victor – KC9NWB, Micaila – KC9NVZ, Joel – KC9NWA), 1 Extra (Chris – his new call sign is – AB9RP), and 1 General (Travis –
KB9YRC) classification. John NZ9Z made a motion to accept the new members and Ken K9HAG second it. The motion carried. The roster will be updated to
reflect the new members and changes to call signs.

Thank you to the VE’s from Sheboygan who came to help with the testing. Another HAMCRAM is scheduled for Fall, possibly the Monday after Labor Day with
a pre-session August 8th.

The club is looking at a couple of Fall projects. Fred suggested we update the club tools. Some of the items suggested were: rattail file, flat file,
deep socket set, combination wrenches and a 12/24 hour Dual clock. Steve K9ZW made a motion for $100 -$150 to be used to purchase the items; it was
second by Tim N7TAL.

Steve K9ZW made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Second by Ken K9HAG. Dick KB9KEM, who claims he “never wins anything,” actually won the 50/50 raffle!
Congratulations Dick! He generously gave his winnings to the club for a total of $24.50. Thank you Dick.

Denny K9LGU/STM gave his presentation. Thank you Marty for making the arrangements so our guest speaker could come speak with us. Feel free to contact
him if you have any questions. See Marty KC9JGE for contact information.
