MANCORAD

 February, 2006, Mancorad Meeting Minutes

President Fred (W6BSF) called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. on February 8, 2006.   Dick (N9QFY) gave the Treasurer’s report, which was accepted by motion from Denise (N4WGK) and second by Gene (WB9DQD).  The January, 2006,   meeting minutes as e-mail distributed by Fred were accepted by motion from Dan (N9FVZ) and second by Walt (K9WL).

2006 Mancorad fundraiser Brat Fry's are scheduled for 5/6 at Two Rivers Pick ‘N Save, 7/1 at Manitowoc Rob’s Market, and 8/19 back at Pick ‘N Save.

Mancorad will conduct a two day Technician Licensing class on 4/1-2 at the Mancorad Club shack.  The course material taught will be Ham Cram in two 3-hours sessions followed by a VE Exam. Participants will pay a nominal fee for the course material and the FCC VE Exam fee.  Mancorad will pick up lunches and give a free 1-year club membership to all who pass the Exam.  Contact John (NZ9Z) as soon as possible with the name, address and telephone number of anyone that you know would like to take the class.

Steve (K9ZW) will conduct a digital communications introduction on 2/26 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mancorad club shack.  Contact Steve if you want to attend.

Dick gave an update on the Mancorad Silent Key plaque. A list of known SK’s is on the Mancorad website; please review and give any updates to Dick.  The website address is; http://www.qsl.net/w9dk/ .

Mancorad will sponsor 3 Cobia submarine operating events in 2006; 4/29-30, 6/3-4, and 9/23-24.

Please give Denise any ideas for monthly club theme presentations you are interested in.

Fred gave an update on the progress of radio station W9LTC at the Lakeshore Technical College training building.  4/5 is the expected ribbon cutting for the building’s expansion; W9LTC will be manned and operated to the extent possible depending on antenna and grounding installation progress.

Dan (N9NCU) gave an ARES/RACES update:

1) ARES/RACES members activated by Manitowoc County Emergency Management are insured through Manitowoc County EM upon formal activation, actual event or training drill; non-ARES/RACES members are not covered.  ARES members activated by the Red Cross are not covered by Red Cross insurance; Red Cross insurance covers only Red Cross employees and Red Cross volunteers.  John Kost of the Red Cross is seeking a clarification from Red Cross to find out if ARES members can be signed up as Red Cross volunteers “on-the-spot” after activation – nothing has been received back yet.

2) The Wisconsin Hospital Bio-terrorism initiative to install an ARES radio station at every participating hospital in the state has experienced a delay.  All hospital questionnaires were due back to WI Section ARES from the County EC’s by 1/31; as of 1/21, only 15 have been received – Manitowoc’s hospitals are 2 of those 15.

The Mancorad board of directors will have a special board meeting on 2/21 to further consider a proposal to modify club dues. A recommendation to club membership will be presented at the March meeting.

AES Superfest dates for 2006 are 3/31 and 4/1. Contact Fred if you are interested in carpooling to Milwaukee.

The 2006 Field Day (6/24-25) site will be Manitowoc Silver Creek Park.

Part 1 of 2 parts of a CQ Magazine videotape was viewed; part 2 will continue at the March meeting.

The monthly 50/50 raffle was conducted.  $21.00 was collected, and the winner of the drawing was Fred. The treasury will increase by the full $21.00 collected because Fred donated his winnings to the club.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.

Lunch was served; thanks to Theresa and Gene for bringing in the treats!!! Fellowship and socializing broke out spontaneously.

  Respectfully submitted,

 Dan (N9NCU), Secretary
