MANCORAD

 April, 2005 Meeting Minutes

President Fred (W6BSF) called the meeting to order at 1933 CST, April 13, 2005.  The March, 2005, meeting minutes as e-mail distributed by Fred were accepted by motion from Travis (KB9YRC) and second by Steve (KB9GPN).  Fred gave the Treasurer’s report on behalf of Dick (N9QFY) who was not in attendance; the report was accepted by motion from Gene (KB9KXF) and second by Chris (KB9VLS).

The meeting started with a few minutes of silence in honor of Dennis Nelson (W9DWN), SK.  Mancorad will make a donation to Manitowoc Lutheran High School in Dennis’s name.

   Please sign up for help on the following club events;

  • The Leukemia – Lymphoma Bike-a-thon on July 23 – 24, 2005. We need a new coordinator as N9PBL has indicated he will not be doing it this year.
  • Field Day on June 24 – 25, 2005 at Silver Creek Park in Manitowoc.
  • Brat Fry on June 11, 2005, at the Two Rivers Pick’N Save; contact N9FVZ, KB9KXE or N9QFY if you can help.
  • US Cobia on April 30 – May 1, 2005.
  • Troutman Bike-a-thon on July 16, 2005; contact KB9GOX if you can help.

A Mancorad membership subscription cancellation letter has been sent to the Badger Smoke Signals; we are expecting a final billing.

Steve (KB9GPN) reported on the library book project status. All books are delivered.  The remaining item is the Public Relations opportunity at the Manitowoc Public Library this Saturday, April 16, 2005, at 10:00 a.m.  The resulting press release will include an encouragement for other clubs to also donate to their libraries.

April 18 - 25, 2005, is National Tornado and Severe Weather week. On April 21, 2005, NOAA weather will simulate a tornado drill at 1:00 p.m.; listen in and check in on the 2 meter net to be conducted. Manitowoc county should be alerted around 1:10 p.m. NOAA Green Bay will conduct SkyWarn training on May 16, 2005, at the UW-Manitowoc; time is 6:30 p.m. in Room 300.

The Mancorad Board of Directors has decided to eliminate the attendance drawing. A 50/50 raffle will be started with the May, 2005, meeting.

The April 30/ May 1, 2005, Cobia event may not allow a sleepover for Mancorad members.  As many as 65 Scouts have signed up, leaving no bunk room for us.  Two options; give a presentation and then leave, or do the presentation and then stay up all night on the radios.  Fred will keep in contact with those members presently signed up for the event for bunk availability.

Manitowoc County ARES/RACES will have a quarterly meeting next week Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the Red Cross Building on North 8th Street , Manitowoc .  The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m.  Please use the front entrance on 8th Street ; the conference room is immediately on your left as you enter.

ARES/RACES has formed a Communications Committee to study upgrade of our HF and 2M emergency communications equipment in Manitowoc County, along with new digital communications options.  The study is expected to be complete by July 31, 2005.

The $9.00 attendance drawing was won by Gene (WB9DQD), who donated the proceeds back to the club for lunch expenses.

The meeting was adjourned at 2013 CST.

The first of three Severe Weather presentations was made by Travis (KB9YRC) after the meeting.

Lunch was served after the presentation’s conclusion.
